Head shots and flash photography is very new to me. When im out on the street doing street photography or pet portraits within the home i do not use a flash. I have spent lots of hours researching which flash to buy and after reading lots of reviews i purchased the Goddox V1 Pro.
The Goddox V1 Pro has been really quite straightforward to learn the basics. I understand how it works alongside my camers and i have been able to take some really good pictures using it. Getting my settings correct takes a little bit of time and i have been advised to purchase a light meter which i havent done yet as i want to concentrate on learning and being confident with the flash and camera settings.
Now to head shots!!! there is so much to think about when taking a professional head shot, how to pose your model, clothing, lighting, back ground colour, light reflectors and if the model is wearing glasses you have to consider the reflection in the glasses. I havent mastered all these things but i have mastered a well posed and in focus shot. I am lucky that i have a very willing model that agrees to all my suggestions and will happily pose for me when ever i want to practise.
The below photo was taken on my Canon 5d mark 1V with my 85mm Samyang lens and the Goddox V1 Pro. I still have lots learn with regards to head shots but for a first try im happy with how the picture has turned out and so is my model.
