Street Photography and Reflection

Writer's picture: Caroline HuntonCaroline Hunton

There is something about catching a candid shot in a shop window reflection. for a while I thought reflection shots meant going to the best instagram location and joining a crowd of people all trying to get the same instagram worthy photographs. For me street photography is about telling a story through a picture, and photographing peoples reflections from shop windows has surprisingly produced some beautiful candid shots. Shooting these images through the glass windows has produced an abstract combination of two different worlds which no-one seemed to notice me doing, or they just thought I was crazy. I did take these pictures in black and white as well as colour. The colour really adds to the mood of the photos compared to the dull look of the black and white images. Here are my three favourite photos all take in the Brighton lanes.

This photo shows the pure joy in the couples faces and was taken in the reflection on a small cracked pub window.

Caught in the act!! Im not sure if the lady spotted me!!

Black and white reflections can be have a low brightness contrast so its hard to see the two world but I think it works in this picture.
